Passport to the Arts 2016

Experience the World of Art on Canyon Road in this amazing two-day art adventure. Artists and art lovers from around the country will converge on Santa Fe over Mother’s Day weekend for Passport to the Arts. More than 100 artists will participate in the weekend’s activities! This is a once-a-year opportunity to acquire a very special, original piece for your art collection.

Openings, exhibitions, and receptions for artists will be held at many of the internationally-known galleries and artist studios on Santa Fe’s historic Canyon Road beginning on Friday night and extending throughout the weekend. Headline events include the Artist Quick Draw, Artists’ Reception and Live Auction on Saturday. More than 100 artists will participate in the weekend’s activities. The event is organized by the Canyon Road Merchants Association with support from our valued business partners.


Art Walk 5-8pm

Canyon Road | Paseo de Peralta to East Palace

Discover openings, exhibitions, silent auctions, and receptions for artists at many of Canyon Road’s internationally-known galleries and artist studios. Artists at some galleries will demonstrate their work and involve you in the artistic process. Other galleries are hosting one-of-a kind exhibitions. Look for the Passport Banners.

While you're on the road, don't miss the opportunity visit the many unique shops on the road that offer hand-made clothing, furniture, jewelry, pottery and hand-crafted items. A variety of dining and drinking options are available in the road’s six eateries.

Scavenger Hunt 4-7pm

Canyon Road Contemporary Art | 403 Canyon Road

The first Passport to the Arts Scavenger Hunt will take place in the Canyon Road art district this year. Participants will gather in the sculpture garden to pick up their Passport to the Arts. Passports serve as a guide to galleries and businesses along Canyon Road and also provide clues and special tasks that each participant must complete. Use the hashtag #CanyonRoadPassport to upload images to Instagram. Completed Passports returned to Canyon Road Contemporary will be entered into a special drawing for prizes donated by Canyon Road merchants.


Artist Quick Draw 11am–1pm

Quick Draw locations and Artist List

Fifty artists, both established and emerging, will be creating new works at seven locations on Canyon Road. Their challenge: to start and finish an original work of art to be sold later in the day at an exciting Live Auction. This is a rare opportunity to observe a large number of diverse artists working in the most challenging circumstances. Planning to attend the Quick Draw? Please arrive early – this is a very fast-paced event.

Silent Auctions and Gallery Exhibitions 10am – 4pm
Most of Canyon Road’s world class galleries are hosting special exhibitions, artist receptions and silent auctions throughout the weekend. Take time between the Artist Quick Draw and the Live Auction to explore the intimate interiors and sculpture gardens of the road’s historic adobes. Look for the Passport banner to find special events.


Saturday, May 9th, 1-7pm
Wiford Gallery | 403 Canyon Road

If you missed the Quick Draw or want to see more, head over to the intersection of Canyon Road and Garcia Street after the Quick Draw. You’ll be able to see all the finished works of art as they are hand-delivered by the artists to the Big Tent in the Wiford Gallery Sculpture Garden. Enjoy performances by SFPS student musicians and register to bid in the Live & Silent Auctions, meet the artists at a cocktail reception and bid in the Live Auction.

Student Musical Performances 1-2:30pm

Santa Fe’s young musicians have practiced all year for performances at this year’s event. Funds earned through Passport to the Arts’ events and auctions are utilized for a variety of music program needs – choirs, guitar ensembles, orchestras and string programs; instrument repair and supplies; student transportation to concerts and festivals,. Any donations given are deeply needed and appreciated – and serve to provide enhanced music opportunities for students.

Silent Auction 1-6pm
Bid on a special collection of paintings, ceramics, jewelry and works of art that will be on display throughout the afternoon at the under the Big Tent at Wiford Gallery. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to acquire a new piece for your collection and support the Santa Fe Public Schools Music Education Program.

Cocktail Reception 4pm
Meet the artists, register for the Live Auction, and preview the works of art that might soon be yours. Enjoy refreshments and hors d’oeuvres compliments of The Compound under the Big Tent.

Live Auction & | 5pm
The paint won’t be dry on the canvasses when bidding opens on 50 works of art created earlier in the day at the Artist Quick Draw. Each piece offered in the auction is a one-of-a-kind work created earlier in the day at the Artist Quick Draw. Register to bid in advance from 1-5pm at the Big Tent at the Wiford Gallery.

Passport to the Arts 2015

Artist Quick Draw | Saturday, May 9th, 11am-1pm
50 artists will be painting at seven locations on Canyon Road between Paseo de Peralta and Camino del Monte Sol. Tent 1 is located near the intersection of Canyon Road & Paseo de Peralta and increase numerically as you move up the road towards the mountains.

If you’re driving, the best place to park is in the lot at the intersection of Paseo de Peralta & Acequia Madre - one block south of Canyon Road. Prefer not to walk - a free public shuttle stops every 15 minutes with stops at 4 locations on Canyon Road. Consider starting at the top of the road and walking down. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and sun protection, and have your camera close at hand.
